Why convert PNG to WebP?
Smaller files at comparable quality — often dramatically smaller. WebP was designed for the web: pages load faster, image CDN bills shrink, and Core Web Vitals improve. If you publish images online — product photos, blog graphics, UI assets — WebP is usually the better wire format than PNG.
Is transparency preserved in WebP?
Yes. WebP supports a full alpha channel, so transparent logos, icons and stickers stay transparent after conversion — unlike JPG, where transparency is flattened onto white. That makes WebP the right small-file choice for graphics that need to sit on any background.
Is WebP lossy or lossless?
The format supports both. This converter uses the browser's WebP encoder, which produces lossy WebP with an adjustable quality slider from 10 to 100 percent. At 90% most images are visually indistinguishable from the PNG while being far smaller. For pixel-perfect archival copies, keep the original PNG.
Do all browsers and apps support WebP?
Every modern browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — displays WebP natively, so it is safe for websites. Outside the browser, support has caught up in most current tools, but some older editors and corporate systems still reject .webp files; if a tool complains, convert back to PNG.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the built-in canvas WebP encoder. The PNG is never sent to a server, logged or stored, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Closing the tab clears everything.
