How to Make a Meme

Three steps, all in your browser.

1

Add your image

Drag a file onto the drop zone or click to browse. Use a photo, a screenshot or a reaction image — JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP all work, and the file never leaves your device.

2

Type the caption

Enter your top and bottom text. It appears in the classic bold, white, black-outlined style and updates live. Adjust the size slider and toggle uppercase to taste; long lines wrap to fit automatically.

3

Download and share

Download the finished meme as a watermark-free PNG at full resolution. Want a smaller file? Run it through the Image Compressor or resize it with the Image Resizer.

For a grid of images rather than captions, use Collage Maker. Image Cropper reframes the picture first, Image Resizer sets the output size, and Image Compressor shrinks the finished meme for upload.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a watermark?
No — the meme you download is exactly what you see in the preview — your image plus your text, with no watermark, logo or branding added. The generator runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API, so the image is never uploaded to a server. That also means it is private and works offline once the page has loaded.
How do I add the classic meme text?
Upload an image, then type into the Top text and Bottom text boxes. The text is drawn in the traditional bold, white, black-outlined Impact style and updates live as you type. Use the size slider to make the lettering bigger or smaller, and the uppercase toggle for the classic all-caps look. Long lines wrap automatically so they always fit the image width.
Can I use my own picture?
Yes — your own picture works. Drop in any JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF or BMP — a photo, a screenshot, a reaction image, whatever you like. The meme is built at your image's full resolution, so the download is as sharp as the original. Nothing you add is stored or sent anywhere; closing the tab clears everything.
What format is the download?
The download is a PNG at the original image's resolution, ready to post to social media, a group chat or a forum. If you want a smaller file afterwards, run the PNG through the Image Compressor, or change its dimensions with the Image Resizer — both also work fully in your browser. PNG is used so the text stays crisp with no compression artefacts.
