Frequently Asked Questions

Does this upload my image?
No — the DPI is changed entirely in your browser. The file's bytes are read locally, the density tag is rewritten on your own device, and the new file is downloaded directly — nothing is ever sent to a server, logged or stored. It keeps working offline once the page has loaded, and closing the tab clears everything.
Does changing DPI change the image quality or pixel size?
No — this tool only rewrites the print-resolution tag inside the file; it does not resample or re-encode the pixels. The image keeps exactly the same pixel dimensions and quality. What changes is how large the image prints: at a higher DPI the same pixels print smaller and sharper.
Why do printers ask for 300 DPI?
300 DPI (dots per inch) is the standard for sharp photo and document printing — at that density the individual pixels are too small for the eye to see. 72 DPI is a screen-era default and prints larger and softer. Set 300 for print, and check the print-size readout to see how big the image will come out on paper.
What is the difference between DPI and pixels?
Pixels are the actual image data — how many dots make up the picture. DPI is just a label saying how many of those pixels to pack into each printed inch. A 3000 × 2000 pixel photo is always 3000 × 2000 pixels; at 300 DPI it prints 10 × 6.7 inches, and at 150 DPI the same pixels print 20 × 13.3 inches.
Which formats are supported?
JPG and PNG. For a JPG the tool sets the JFIF density in dots per inch; for a PNG it writes a pHYs chunk (pixels per metre). Other formats such as WebP and GIF do not carry a standard DPI tag, so they are not supported here.
