Make Image Transparent

No — this tool runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is loaded, edited and downloaded on your own device — it is never sent to a server, logged or stored. That makes it safe for private or sensitive images, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Closing the tab clears everything.

This tool removes one solid or near-solid colour by colour-keying, so it is best for logos, icons, screenshots and flat backgrounds where the background is a single even colour like white. The AI Background Remover at ../bg-remover/ uses a machine-learning model to cut out a subject from a busy photo, which works better for people, products and detailed scenes. Use this colour-key tool for clean flat backgrounds and the AI remover for photographs.

By default the top-left corner pixel is used as the colour to remove, which is usually the background. To choose a different colour, click any pixel on the preview and that colour becomes the new target. The Remove white button sets the target to pure white in one tap. The swatch always shows the colour that is currently being made transparent.

Tolerance controls how close a pixel's colour has to be to the target before it is made transparent. A low tolerance removes only colours that are nearly identical to the target, while a higher tolerance also clears similar shades — useful when a background has soft gradients, JPEG noise or anti-aliased edges. Turn it up until the background is gone, then ease off if it starts eating into the subject.

Transparency needs an alpha channel, and JPG has no alpha — a JPG would fill the cleared area back in with solid white. PNG (lossless, best for logos and graphics) and WebP (smaller files) both support transparency, so those are the only export formats offered here. Choose PNG for the widest compatibility.
