Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert JPG to PNG?
Usually because a tool demands it: many apps, design programs, document systems and upload forms only accept PNG files. PNG is also the safer format for further editing — once an image is PNG, every subsequent save is lossless, so it will not degrade the way a JPG does when edited and re-saved repeatedly.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No — and be wary of tools that claim otherwise. The compression artifacts already baked into the JPG stay exactly as they are; PNG simply stores them without adding any further loss. Converting to PNG stops future quality loss, it cannot undo past loss.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. JPG cannot store transparency, so there is none to carry over — the PNG will look identical to the JPG, background included. Making a background transparent requires an editor that can select and erase it; a format conversion alone cannot do that.
Why is the PNG larger than my JPG?
That is expected. JPG compresses aggressively by discarding detail; PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly, which takes more bytes — often several times more for photos. If file size matters more than lossless storage, keep the JPG or convert to WebP instead.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the built-in canvas encoder. The JPG is never sent to a server, logged or stored, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded. Closing the tab clears everything.
