What units can I convert?
The unit converter covers fourteen categories. Length, area, weight, temperature, volume and speed handle everyday conversions — meters and feet, square meters and acres, kilograms and pounds, Celsius and Fahrenheit, liters and gallons, km/h and mph. Pressure, energy, power, force, density, flow rate, torque and viscosity cover the engineering side — bar and psi, kWh and BTU, kW and horsepower, newtons and pound-force, kg/m3 and lb/ft3, m3/h and gallons per minute, newton-meters and pound-feet, pascal-seconds and centipoise. Area also carries the regional land units: rai, cent, guntha, ground, kanal, marla and bigha. Why are there two different bigha units?
Because the bigha has no single national value — it is a traditional land unit that differs by state, so one number would be wrong for most people. The converter offers the two most widely used definitions, each labelled: the West Bengal and Assam bigha of 1,600 square yards (about 1,337.8 m2), and the pucca bigha of 3,025 square yards used across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which is exactly five eighths of an acre (about 2,529.3 m2). Check which definition your document or locality uses before relying on a figure. The other regional units here are fixed by definition: a rai is exactly 1,600 m2, a cent is one hundredth of an acre, a guntha one fortieth, a kanal one eighth and a marla one one-hundred-and-sixtieth.
How accurate are the conversions?
Every conversion uses the exact, internationally defined factor rather than a rounded approximation. One inch is exactly 0.0254 meters, one pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, one US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters, and one mile is exactly 1609.344 meters. Temperature uses the precise formulas — for example Fahrenheit to Celsius is (F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. Results are calculated at full double precision and then displayed to eight significant figures with trailing zeros trimmed, so what you see is accurate enough for engineering, cooking, travel and schoolwork alike.
Does it convert as I type?
Yes — the unit converter converts as you type. The conversion is live and bidirectional. Type a number in the left box and the right box updates instantly; type in the right box and the left box updates instead. Changing either unit dropdown re-runs the conversion immediately. There is no convert button to press and no page reload — the math runs in your browser on every keystroke, so you get an answer the moment you finish typing.
What does the swap button do?
The swap button in the middle reverses the direction of the conversion by exchanging the "from" and "to" units. If you were converting kilometers to miles, one tap switches it to miles to kilometers and recalculates using the current value. It is a quick way to flip a conversion you do often without re-selecting both dropdowns, and it works the same way across all five categories.
