PDF to Word Converter

Extract a PDF's text and build it into an editable Word (.docx) file — right in your browser, nothing uploaded.

This extracts the text from your PDF into an editable Word (.docx) file. Layout, images, columns and tables are not preserved — you get clean, editable text. For scanned PDFs there is no text to extract.

How to Convert a PDF to Word

Three steps, all in your browser.

1

Add your PDF

Drag in a PDF, or click the box to browse. The file stays on your device — it is read locally with the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs, so nothing is uploaded.

2

Extract the text

Every page is read and its text is grouped into paragraphs by line position. If the PDF is a scan with no text layer, you will be told plainly instead of getting an empty file.

3

Build and download

Click Build .docx and a real Word document is assembled from the extracted paragraphs, right in your browser. Download it and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice — text-only, ready to edit. Need the text alone? Use the PDF to Text converter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this PDF to Word converter actually preserve?
Only the text. Every page is read in your browser, grouped into paragraphs by line, and written into a real .docx file you can edit immediately. Layout, images, columns, tables and fonts from the original PDF are not reconstructed — you get clean, editable text, not a visual clone of the page.
Why is my downloaded .docx just plain paragraphs with no formatting?
That is by design. This tool builds a minimal Office Open XML document from the extracted text — one paragraph per detected line — rather than trying to rebuild fonts, spacing, columns or tables. If you need a pixel-faithful conversion, opening the PDF directly in Microsoft Word does a better (though still imperfect) job of reconstructing layout.
Why did my scanned PDF produce an empty or unusable document?
Scanned PDFs are photographs of pages with no text layer underneath, so there is nothing to extract. This tool does not perform OCR (optical character recognition). A quick test: if you cannot select the text with your mouse in a PDF viewer, there is no text layer to extract, and the Build .docx button stays disabled.
Will the .docx file open in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice?
Yes. It is a standard, valid Office Open XML package — the same zip-based format Word itself produces — with the required [Content_Types].xml, _rels/.rels and word/document.xml parts, so it opens cleanly in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice Writer without any corruption warning.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Text extraction and the .docx build both run entirely in your browser — the PDF is read locally with the same engine Firefox uses to display PDFs, and the Word file is assembled client-side. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. Closing the tab clears everything.
