Morse Code Translator

Translate text into International Morse code — and decode it straight back — instantly, live as you type. Press Play to hear the dots and dashes as sound.

How to Translate Morse Code

Three steps, all in your browser.

1

Pick a direction

Choose Text to Morse to encode plain text into dots and dashes, or Morse to Text to decode a signal back into words. The Swap button flips the direction and moves the result into the input in one click.

2

Type or paste

Enter your text, or paste Morse using dots, dashes, spaces between letters and a slash ( / ) between words. Letter case does not matter. Converting numbers between bases instead? Use the Number Base Converter.

3

Read, hear and copy

The output updates live as you type. Press Play to hear the Morse as beeps, then hit Copy — nothing is uploaded, every translation and the audio happen on your own device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I translate text to Morse code?
Keep the Text to Morse mode selected and type or paste your text. Each letter and digit is replaced with its International Morse code — a pattern of dots and dashes — with a single space between letters and a slash ( / ) between words. For example SOS becomes ... --- ... and HELLO WORLD becomes .... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -.. . Everything updates live as you type and nothing is uploaded — the conversion runs entirely on your own device.
How do I decode Morse code back into text?
Switch to Morse to Text mode and paste your code. Separate the dots and dashes of each letter with a space, and separate words with a slash ( / ). The tool looks up every dot-dash group and rebuilds the original text. Extra spaces are ignored, so ... --- ... returns SOS.
What is SOS in Morse code?
SOS is three dots, three dashes, three dots: ... --- ... . It is the international distress signal, chosen because the pattern is short, symmetrical and unmistakable even to an untrained ear. In this tool you can hear it by typing SOS and pressing Play.
Can I hear the Morse code as sound?
Yes — the Morse Code Translator can play the code as sound. After translating text to Morse, press the Play button to hear the signal as beeps. A dot is a short tone and a dash is a tone three times as long, with the standard gaps between letters and words. The audio is generated in your browser with the Web Audio API — no file is downloaded and nothing is sent anywhere.
Does the translator support numbers and punctuation?
Yes — the translator supports numbers and punctuation. It covers the full International Morse alphabet: A–Z, the digits 0–9, and common punctuation such as period, comma, question mark, slash, apostrophe, colon and the at sign. Characters with no standard Morse equivalent are skipped when encoding. Letter case does not matter — Morse code has no upper or lower case.
