What is the formula for the volume of a cylinder?
The volume of a cylinder is π × radius² × height. With a radius of 3 cm and a height of 10 cm that is π × 9 × 10 = 90π, about 282.74 cm³. Enter the radius and the height and the calculator applies the formula, showing the result in cubic units. A cone with the same base and height holds exactly one third as much.
How do I find the volume of a sphere?
To find the volume of a sphere, use V = 4⁄3 × π × radius³. For a radius of 3 that gives 4⁄3 × π × 27 = 36π, about 113.10. Select Sphere and enter the radius; the calculator computes the volume and also reports the surface area 4πr². Because the radius is cubed, doubling it multiplies the volume by eight.
What units does the volume come out in?
The volume comes out in whatever unit you entered the dimensions in, cubed. Typing centimetres gives cubic centimetres (cm³), and metres give cubic metres (m³). Mixing units within one shape produces a meaningless number, so convert everything to a single unit first. One cubic metre is 1,000,000 cm³, because each metre is 100 cm and 100³ is a million.
