Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the radar data come from?
The precipitation radar comes from RainViewer, which aggregates public weather-radar networks worldwide (including the US NOAA/NWS NEXRAD network and many national services) into a single global layer. The basemap — coastlines, borders and place names — is Esri's light-gray canvas. LK Forge does not operate radar itself; it displays these public sources on one animated map.
What do the radar colours mean?
Colours show precipitation intensity, roughly from light to heavy: blues are light rain or drizzle, greens are moderate rain, yellows and oranges are heavy rain or showers, and reds and purples are very intense rain, often thunderstorms or hail. The exact rates vary by radar source, so read the colours as a relative scale rather than an exact millimetre-per-hour figure.
How recent is the radar, and what is the forecast part?
The timeline shows the last couple of hours of observed radar plus a short nowcast — a computed forecast of where the precipitation is likely to move over roughly the next 30 minutes, marked as forecast frames. Observed frames update every ten minutes. Press play to animate the timeline or drag the slider to scrub through it.
How do I see the radar for my area?
Tap Use my location and allow location access, or search for any city or place. The map centres there; you can also pan and zoom the map freely anywhere in the world. Your location stays in your browser and is only used to centre the map.
Is the weather radar free and does it need an account?
Yes — the radar map is completely free, with no account, no sign-up and no API key. It loads public RainViewer radar tiles and an OpenStreetMap basemap the moment the page opens in any modern browser on phone or desktop.
