Play the tone

Press Play test tone — you should hear a steady sound. If you hear nothing, raise the volume slider and check your system volume and output device.

Check left & right

Tap Left, then Right. The tone should come from only that side. If it doesn't, a speaker, cable or balance setting is off. Then test your microphone.

Sweep the frequency

Slide from bass to treble to hear how well your speakers reproduce low and high notes. It's also a rough hearing-range check — most adults stop hearing somewhere around 15–17 kHz.

How do I test my speakers?

If you only hear one side while Both is selected, one speaker or channel has a problem. Start with the volume slider low, because a sustained 440 Hz tone at full volume is uncomfortable on headphones.
How do I check the left and right channels?
To check the left and right channels, select Left and confirm the sound comes only from your left speaker or earbud, then select Right for the other side. This checks your stereo wiring, your balance setting and that both drivers actually work. Sides that come out swapped usually mean a reversed cable or a crossed balance control rather than a broken speaker. On a mono speaker or a single earbud, Left and Right will both play, which is expected.
What is the frequency slider for?
The frequency slider changes the pitch of the tone from deep bass to high treble, anywhere from 50 Hz to 15 kHz. Sweeping it lets you check that your speakers reproduce low and high notes rather than only the midrange. It also doubles as a rough hearing-range check, because most adults stop hearing tones somewhere between 15 and 17 kHz. Small laptop speakers typically roll off below roughly 150 Hz, so a very low tone can vanish even when nothing is broken.
Is anything recorded or uploaded?
No — the sound test records nothing and uploads nothing. The tone is generated inside your browser with the Web Audio API and played straight to your speakers. It never asks for microphone access, so there is no audio input for it to capture. Closing the tab stops the oscillator and ends the test.
