Press every key

Work across the keyboard row by row. Each key you press turns red and stays highlighted, and the counter shows how many of the keys on screen you've tested.

Spot dead and stuck keys

A key that never lights up is dead — it isn't registering. If "keys held now" stays above zero when your hands are off the keyboard, a key is stuck down. Both mean a hardware fault.

Check ghosting & rollover

Hold several keys at once and watch "keys held now". If it stops climbing, your keyboard can't report that combination — that's ghosting, common on membrane keyboards during fast gaming.

How do I test my keyboard?
To test your keyboard, click the on-screen keyboard once so the page has focus, then press every key in turn. How can I tell if a key is stuck or dead?
A dead key never lights up when you press it, which means the keyboard is not reporting it at all. A stuck key shows as held down even when your hands are off the keyboard, so the keys held now count stays above zero. Both point to a hardware fault rather than a browser problem. Debris under a keycap is a common cause, so it is worth cleaning the switch before replacing anything.
What is keyboard ghosting?
Ghosting is when a keyboard fails to register some keys while several others are held at once. Hold a few keys together and watch the keys held now number: if it stops climbing, your keyboard cannot report that combination. Membrane keyboards commonly cap out at around three simultaneous keys, which is why the limit shows up during fast gaming. Keyboards sold as N-key rollover report every key you press at once and will not ghost.
Why don't F5, F11 or F12 work in the test?
F5, F11 and F12 are claimed by the browser or the operating system before the page ever sees them. F5 reloads the page, F11 toggles full screen and F12 opens developer tools. That is a browser rule rather than a fault in your keyboard or in the test. Almost every other key, including the modifiers and the number pad, can be tested normally.
