How the countdown works

Enter a date and the tool subtracts today's date from it to get the number of whole days remaining. A date later this year counts down toward zero; a date that has already passed shows how many days ago it happened. The result also expresses the gap in weeks and days, which is often easier to picture than a single large number.

For recurring holidays, the dedicated countdown pages automatically roll over to next year's date the moment the current one passes, so a "days until Christmas" timer never shows a negative number — it simply starts counting toward the following December 25. How many days until a specific date?

If the date is in the past, it shows how many days ago it was. The whole calculation runs in your browser from your device clock, so the answer is in your own local time zone and nothing is sent anywhere.
Does the countdown count today?
The day figure is the number of full days from today to the target date. Today counts as day zero, so a date tomorrow shows 1 day. On the fixed-event pages a live timer also counts the remaining hours, minutes and seconds.
Can I count down to my birthday or an anniversary?
Birthdays and anniversaries work exactly like any other target date. Enter the date for this year, or for next year if it has already passed, to see how many days remain. For recurring holidays there are dedicated countdown pages with a live seconds timer.
Can I count down to a date many years away?
The days-until tool accepts any date your browser can parse, so a target decades ahead works just as well as one next week. The count is a plain difference in whole days, so leap days are included automatically: 2028 and 2032 each add a February 29. Distant dates stay exact because the calculation walks the calendar rather than assuming an average year length.
