Enter a date and the tool subtracts today's date from it to get the number of whole days remaining. A date later this year counts down toward zero; a date that has already passed shows how many days ago it happened. The result also expresses the gap in weeks and days, which is often easier to picture than a single large number.
For recurring holidays, the dedicated countdown pages automatically roll over to next year's date the moment the current one passes, so a "days until Christmas" timer never shows a negative number — it simply starts counting toward the following December 25. To measure the exact gap between two arbitrary dates instead, use the date calculator.
