      How to Play

      • The grid: white squares take letters; dark squares are blocks. The small number in a square matches a numbered clue in the Across or Down list.
      • Select a word: click or tap any white square to highlight its word — click the same square again to switch between Across and Down. Clicking a clue jumps straight to its word.
      • Type to fill: letters advance automatically along the word; Backspace erases and steps back; the arrow keys move around the grid.
      • Finish: the puzzle is solved when every white square holds the correct letter. Completed clues get a tick in the list.
      • Need help? Check marks wrong letters in red until you retype them, Reveal Letter fills the selected square, and Reveal Word completes the highlighted answer.

      Tips for Solving

      Skim both clue lists first and bank the giveaways — short answers and clues you know cold. Every letter you place is a free hint for the words crossing it, so a few easy answers quickly light up the rest of the grid.

      When a clue stumps you, work from its crossings: fill the intersecting words and re-read the clue with the pattern in mind. The answer length shown after each clue tells you exactly how many letters you need.

      Use helpers sparingly — one revealed letter is often enough to unlock a stubborn corner, and checked mistakes disappear as soon as you type over them. The timer only races you, not the puzzle.

      How do you play a crossword?

      Fill every white square with a letter so that each row of connected squares spells the answer to its Across clue and each column spells the answer to its Down clue. The small number in a square links it to the matching numbered clue. Click a square to highlight its word, click the same square again to switch between Across and Down, or click any clue to jump straight to its word. Type to fill letters — the cursor advances automatically — and use Backspace to erase. The puzzle is solved when every square is correct.

      How are the puzzles generated?

      Every puzzle is built fresh in your browser the moment you press New Puzzle. The generator draws from a bank of over 200 general-knowledge clues — animals, geography, food, science, sports and everyday words — and places 12 to 16 answers on a 13×13 grid so that every word crosses at least one other and shared squares always agree. Difficulty changes the mix: Easy uses shorter, common words, while Hard uses more and longer words. No two puzzles are the same.

      What do Check and Reveal do?

      Check compares what you have typed against the solution and marks every wrong letter in red — the mark disappears as soon as you type over it, so you can correct mistakes without spoiling the rest. Reveal Letter fills in the currently selected square, and Reveal Word completes the whole highlighted answer. Clear wipes the grid to start over on the same puzzle. All helpers are optional: purists can solve entirely unaided.

      Can I play on my phone?

      Yes. The grid scales to your screen, and tapping any white square brings up your phone's keyboard so you can type straight into the puzzle — it works on iPhone and Android alike. The clue lists sit right below the grid, tapping a clue jumps to its word, and completed clues are ticked off as you go. On desktop you can use the mouse and physical keyboard, including the arrow keys to move around the grid.

      Completely free, with no download, no account and no sign-up. The game runs entirely in your browser: puzzles are generated locally and nothing about your play is sent to a server. Only your light-or-dark theme preference is stored on your device. Play as many puzzles as you like at any difficulty.
