How to Play Solitaire

  • The setup: seven tableau columns are dealt with 1 to 7 cards; only the top card of each column starts face up. The rest form the stock, top-left.
  • The goal: build the four foundations up by suit, from Ace all the way to King. Clear all 52 cards to win.
  • Tableau moves: stack cards in descending rank and alternating colour — a red 6 goes on a black 7. You can move a whole ordered run of face-up cards at once.
  • Empty columns: only a King (or a King-led run) may be placed into an empty column.
  • The stock: click it to deal cards to the waste; play the top waste card. When the stock runs out, click the empty pile to recycle the waste and go through it again.
  • Draw 1 vs Draw 3: Draw 1 turns over one card at a time and is friendlier; Draw 3 deals three at once (only the top is playable) for a stiffer challenge.

Controls: tap or click a card to send it to its best legal spot (foundations first), double-click to force a card to the foundations, or drag and drop on desktop. Use Undo freely, and once every card is face up the Auto-finish button clears the rest for you.

Tips for Winning

Always turn over face-down tableau cards as early as you can — every card you flip is new information and a new option. Empty columns are precious: hold them for Kings that will unlock long buried runs rather than filling them at the first chance.

Don't rush every Ace and 2 to the foundations. A low card left in the tableau can be a useful landing spot; send cards up only when they no longer help you build down. Deal through the stock early to see what you're working with, and plan a few moves ahead before committing.

If a deal is genuinely stuck, that's normal — not every shuffle is solvable. Hit New Game for a fresh deal, and try Draw 1 if you want a higher chance of a win.

How do you play Klondike Solitaire?

Draw 3 deals three cards at once and you can only play the top one, so cards are harder to reach and the game is tougher. Draw 3 is the traditional casino version; Draw 1 is the friendlier, more beginner-oriented mode.

Is Solitaire always winnable?

No. Some deals cannot be solved no matter how well you play. Studies estimate that with perfect play roughly 80–90% of Draw 1 Klondike deals are winnable, while Draw 3 is meaningfully harder. In practice human win rates are lower because the best line isn't always obvious. If a deal feels stuck, start a new game — a fresh shuffle is always one click away.

Is this free, and does it work on mobile?

Completely free with no download and no sign-up. The whole game runs in your browser and is fully responsive: on a phone or tablet you tap a card to send it to its best legal spot, and on a desktop you can drag and drop or click. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without a connection.

Is my data private?

Yes. The game is entirely client-side — the deck, the moves, the timer and the win screen are all computed in your browser. Nothing about your game is sent to a server, and the only thing stored locally is your light or dark theme preference.
