Play Crazy Eights Online vs the Computer
Play Crazy Eights — the classic shedding card game — directly against the computer, free, in your browser, with no download and no sign-up. Deal is 2 to 4 players; you play the face-up hand at the bottom. On your turn you play a card that matches the top of the discard pile by suit or rank, or an 8, which is wild and lets you name any suit. If you cannot play, you draw a card. The first player to get rid of every card wins the round. Pick a difficulty, choose how many players, and press New Game.
How the computer plays
Crazy Eights gives the computer exactly one lever, and the whole game is about how it uses it: the wild 8. The engine tracks which suit you have been forced to draw on and steers the discard pile toward it, so an 8 is rarely spent to escape a turn — it is saved until naming a suit actually strands you. It also counts how many cards of the current suit remain unseen before following it, and when you drop to one or two cards it will break its own suit run to force a draw instead. Beginner plays any legal card and burns its eights early; Medium and Hard hold them. Everything runs client-side in a background worker thread; nothing is sent to a server.
How to play Crazy Eights — the rules
- The deal. Each player gets seven cards. The rest form the draw pile, and one card is turned up to start the discard pile.
- Your turn. Play a card matching the top card of the discard pile by suit or by rank.
- Eights are wild. An 8 can be played on anything; when you do, you name the suit the next player must follow.
- Drawing. If you have no legal card, draw one from the pile. If the drawn card can be played you may play it, otherwise your turn passes.
- Winning. The first player to shed all their cards wins the round. In this version you must go out on an ordinary card — you cannot win by playing an 8 as your last card. (Rule sets vary on this point; many published versions allow it.)
Tips
- Hold your eights. A wild 8 is your escape hatch when you are stuck — don’t spend it while you still have ordinary cards you can play.
- Steer to your longest suit. When you match by rank you change the suit in play — swing it toward the suit you hold the most of so you can keep playing.
- Watch the counts. When an opponent is down to a card or two, dump the suits they’re unlikely to hold to force a draw.
