Is 5x5 2048 easier than 4x4?
Yes. 25 cells give you far more breathing room than 16, so runs last longer and bigger tiles are reachable. In our 100-game self-play test the AI reached 2048 in 98% of runs on 5x5, against roughly 70% on the classic board.
What's the highest tile possible on a 5x5 board?
The theoretical ceiling is 2^26 = 67,108,864 — a limit set by the 25 cells plus the fact that spawns can be 4s. No human or program gets anywhere near it; in practice 5x5 is about chasing 4096, 8192 and beyond.
