How to play the Anagram game

Anagram Blast gives you seven random letters and 90 seconds. Click Start, then type every valid word you can make using only those letters — each at least three letters long — and press Enter or Add. The Found counter tracks your words and the Possible counter shows how many exist in total, so you always know how close you are to clearing the board.

    Strategy tips

    • Lock in short 3- and 4-letter words first to build your count fast.
    • Look for common endings like -ed, -er, -ing, and -s to extend words.
    • Rearrange the same root letters into multiple words (such as star, rats, arts).
    • Master letter combinations with the Word Unscrambler, which lists every word from a set.

    Frequently asked questions

How do you play the Anagram game?

Anagram Blast gives you seven random letters and 90 seconds to find as many valid words as you can make from them. Type a word using only the letters shown — each must be at least three letters long — and press Enter or Add to submit it. Valid words are added to your found list and your count goes up, while the game also tracks how many words are possible from the current letters so you can see how close you are to finding them all. There is no penalty for a wrong guess, so keep trying combinations until the timer runs out. Click New Letters for a fresh set and another 90-second round. It is free and unlimited with no sign-up.

What counts as a valid word in the Anagram game?

A valid word must be at least three letters long and use only the seven letters currently on screen, and you can only use each letter as many times as it appears in the set. The word also has to exist in the game's dictionary, which is the Word Unscrambler's “Common words only” list, so rounds stay solvable. Proper nouns and abbreviations are not accepted. The game shows a 'Possible' counter so you know exactly how many real words can be built from the current letters — try to find as many of them as you can before time runs out.

What is the difference between an anagram and a word scramble?

An anagram game is open-ended: you are given a pool of letters and asked to find every word you can build from them, so a single set of seven letters can yield dozens of answers. A word scramble has exactly one target word whose letters have been shuffled, and you simply restore the original. Anagram play rewards breadth — spotting many words quickly — while scramble rewards speed on one answer at a time. Both sharpen the same vocabulary and pattern-recognition skills. Try our timed Word Scramble game to feel the difference.

Is this Anagram game free to play?

Yes — the Anagram game is completely free with no account, login, or download needed, and you can play unlimited 90-second rounds. It runs entirely in your browser on phones, tablets, and desktops, and your results stay on your device. If you want to find every possible word from a set of letters outside the timer, the main Word Unscrambler tool does exactly that — enter any letters and it lists all valid words, which is ideal for Scrabble, Words With Friends, and crossword help.
