Rubik's Cube Tools

Free, browser-based tools for the 3x3 Rubik's Cube — a solver that animates a near-optimal, move-by-move solution and a speedcuber timer with live ao5 and ao12 stats. No sign-up, nothing uploaded.

The Rubik's Cube solver takes the colors of a scrambled cube — your own, or a random one it generates for you — and works out a near-optimal solution using a two-phase algorithm, then animates it move by move. The Rubik's Cube timer is a speedcuber's stopwatch: hold to ready, release to start, and it tracks your best, mean, ao5 and ao12 across WCA-style scrambles. Both run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and there is nothing to install.

Cube notation and what the numbers mean

Both tools speak standard cube notation. A single letter — U, D, L, R, F or B — is a quarter turn of the up, down, left, right, front or back face, turned clockwise as you look at that face. A prime mark, as in U′, reverses the direction, and a 2, as in U2, means a half turn. The solver labels every move in the solution that way, so the sequence reads exactly like one written out in any tutorial or algorithm sheet.

On the timer, best is your fastest single solve of the session and mean is the plain average of all of them. The ao5 and ao12 figures are the averages of your last 5 and last 12 solves, computed the WCA way: the fastest and the slowest are dropped and the rest averaged, so one lucky solve or one disaster cannot dominate the number. A +2 penalty adds two seconds to a solve, and a DNF counts as the worst result in any average that includes it.

Neither tool needs an account, an extension or an install. The solver runs its two-phase search in your browser, so the colors you paint never leave the page, and the timer keeps your session in your browser's local storage, which is why clearing site data is what resets your times.
