Every figure updates as you type: characters with and without spaces, letters, digits, punctuation, words, lines and the real UTF-8 byte size.
Choose where the text is going — an X post, a meta description, a YouTube title, an SMS — or type your own limit. The bar turns amber near the limit and red over it, and tells you exactly how many characters are left.
Edit until the bar is green, then copy the counts or the text. Need words, sentences or a frequency table too? The Word Counter does the full breakdown.
Count as characters, because platform limits count them. The without-spaces figure strips every kind of whitespace.
One character each, the way you see them — even a flag or a skin-tone emoji that is several code units underneath. The Bytes figure shows the real storage size.
Any link counts as 23 characters in the X / Twitter meter, exactly as X's t.co shortener does, whatever the real length.
Plain GSM text fits 160 per message (153 each when split). One emoji or curly quote switches the whole message to Unicode: 70 per segment, 67 when split.
