How to use the Open Graph preview

Fill in your page's title, description, image URL and canonical URL, and the three cards redraw to show how the link will look when it is shared. Use an image of about 1200×630 pixels for the large card so it stays sharp on every platform. When the preview looks right, copy the generated og: and twitter: tags and paste them into the <head> of your page.

Social platforms cache the first preview they see, so after you publish new tags you may need to refresh them with the platform's own sharing debugger. For a fuller set of SEO and social tags in one place, use the Meta Tag Generator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Open Graph?
Open Graph is a small set of meta tags, added to the head of a page, that tell social platforms how to display a link. Tags such as og:title, og:description and og:image control the headline, summary and image shown in the preview card on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, iMessage and most other apps that unfurl links.
What image size should I use?
Use an image of 1200 by 630 pixels, a ratio of about 1.91 to 1, for the large summary_large_image card. That size looks sharp on high-density screens and is scaled down cleanly by every major platform. Keep important text away from the edges, since some layouts crop slightly.
What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter Cards?
Open Graph is read by most platforms, including Facebook and LinkedIn. X reads its own twitter: tags, such as twitter:card and twitter:image, but falls back to the Open Graph tags when they are missing. Providing both gives you the most control, which is why this tool outputs the og: and twitter: tags together.
Why is my preview not updating on Facebook or LinkedIn?
Platforms cache the preview the first time a link is shared, so edits to your tags will not appear until the cache is refreshed. Re-scrape the URL with the platform's own sharing debugger, such as the Facebook Sharing Debugger or the LinkedIn Post Inspector, to force a fresh fetch of your tags and image.
