How the Wordle Solver Works
Each guess you add becomes a set of constraints. A green tile fixes a letter to its exact position; a yellow tile means the letter is in the answer but not in that spot; a grey tile means the letter is absent (or, when paired with a coloured copy of the same letter, that there are no more of it). The solver tests every word in its list against all of your guesses at once and keeps only the words that satisfy every clue. As you add more guesses, the remaining list shrinks — often to a single answer. The best-next-guess suggestion is picked to match as many of the remaining candidates as possible.

How do I use the Wordle solver?
Type your first guess into the top row using your keyboard, then tap each tile to match the colour Wordle gave you: grey for a letter that is not in the word, yellow for a letter that is in the word but in the wrong spot, and green for a letter that is correct and in the right place. When all five tiles are set, press Add guess. The solver instantly filters its word list down to every answer that fits the clues so far and shows them below, along with a suggested best next guess. Repeat for each guess you have made, and the list shrinks until only the answer (or a small handful of options) remains. Use Reset to start over for a new puzzle.
How does it handle repeated letters?
Repeated letters are the trickiest part of Wordle, and the solver follows the game's exact rules. When the same letter appears twice in one guess, the colours together tell you how many of that letter the answer contains. If one copy is green or yellow and another copy of the same letter is grey, the answer contains exactly that many of the letter — no more. If both copies are green or yellow, the answer has at least that many. The solver applies both the minimum and the exact-count cap when filtering, so a word like ALLOW is correctly excluded when your clues prove the answer has only one L. This is the logic that catches most people out when solving by hand.
Where does the word list come from?
The solver checks your clues against a list of about 2,300 common five-letter words — the well-known public Wordle answer set that the game has historically drawn from. These are everyday words, so the suggestions stay realistic rather than burying you in obscure terms. Because the official New York Times list is curated and changes over time, a brand-new answer could occasionally fall outside this set, in which case the solver might not list it. What is the best Wordle starting word?
A strong opener uses common letters and a good mix of vowels and consonants so it reveals as much as possible on the first guess. CRANE, SLATE, CRATE, TRACE and AUDIO are popular choices because they test high-frequency letters early. The solver suggests CRANE before you enter anything, then recalculates the best next guess from the words still in play after each clue — once the list is short, the recommended guess is chosen to match as many remaining candidates as possible. There is no single perfect opener; what matters more is reacting well to the clues. Reuse confirmed green and yellow letters in new positions, and avoid replaying letters you have already ruled out in grey.
