Ikigai Finder

Map your ikigai — your "reason for being" — across four circles: what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. Fill them in and reveal where they overlap. Free, private, and runs in your browser.

This is a reflection worksheet, not a career test or assessment. The four-circle ikigai diagram is a popular Western interpretation — a helpful way to think about purpose, work and meaning. Nothing you type here is uploaded or stored.

What is ikigai?

Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese word often translated as "a reason for being" — the sense of purpose that makes life feel worth living. In Japan it is a broad, everyday idea that need not involve work or money at all. In the West it became widely known through a four-circle diagram that maps ikigai as the sweet spot where four things overlap: what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.

Each pair of circles has its own name. Where love meets skill you find your passion; where love meets the world's needs, your mission; where skill meets income, your profession; and where the world's needs meet income, your vocation. Your ikigai sits at the very centre, where all four overlap. Seeing which overlaps are strong — and which circle you keep leaving blank — can be more revealing than the centre itself.

This worksheet is a starting point for reflection, not a verdict. If it sparks bigger questions about direction and values, the personal values quiz can help you see what matters most to you, and the goal-setting worksheet can turn an insight into a concrete next step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ikigai?
Ikigai is a Japanese concept often translated as "a reason for being." A popular Western diagram maps it as the overlap of four circles: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs and what you can be paid for.
How does the ikigai finder work?
You write a few words under each of the four circles. The worksheet then reflects your answers back and names the overlaps — passion, mission, profession and vocation — with your ikigai at the centre where all four meet.
Is my information saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded or stored. You can copy a text summary or download an image of your map to keep.
What are the four ikigai overlaps?
Passion is what you love and are good at; mission is what you love and the world needs; profession is what you are good at and paid for; vocation is what the world needs and pays for. Ikigai sits where all four overlap.
